SUBARU LEGACY OUTBACK

“A reliable and versatile do-everything car, plus its drive train has a surprisingly low center of gravity. Don’t be afraid of higher-mileage vehicles as these can run for 300,000 miles,” says Tsuchiya. Best to opt for a 2008 with enhanced safety features and driver comfort, but you can go back as far as 2005. They’ll range from $15,000 into the low $20,000s, depending on the year.

Wanna get more pre-owned car for your buck? Two eBay motor experts handicap the field

BMW M3

“The M3 has serious power and handling, and the BMW brand tends to retain its value better than most manufacturers,” says Anson Tse, a senior manager at eBay Motors. Stick to E46s from 2003-2006 to avoid engine issues, and expect to pay in the mid-$20,000s. The newer E90/E92s have V8s and cost about twice as much pre-owned. “The V8 is a beast in sheep’s clothing,” says Dan Tsuchiya, another senior manager at eBay Motors.
