“The M3 has serious power and handling, and the BMW brand tends to retain its value better than most manufacturers,” says Anson Tse, a senior manager at eBay Motors. Stick to E46s from 2003-2006 to avoid engine issues, and expect to pay in the mid-$20,000s. The newer E90/E92s have V8s and cost about twice as much pre-owned. “The V8 is a beast in sheep’s clothing,” says Dan Tsuchiya, another senior manager at eBay Motors.
