ATLANTA, Georgia (AFP) – Australian Lauren Jackson was named Most Valuable Player of the WNBA finals as her Seattle Storm completed a three-game sweep of Atlanta in the championship series.
The Storm completed their unbeaten march through the postseason with an 87-84 victory over the Atlanta Dream.
Seattle won each of their seven playoff contests to add a second WNBA crown to the one they captured in 2004.
Swin Cash scored 18 points to lead a balanced Seattle offense that overcame 35 points from the Dream's Angel McCoughtry.
Jackson, who had 26 points in each of the Storm's first two victories in the best-of-five game series, had 15 points and nine rebounds and was selected MVP of the finals.
McCoughtry, who set a WNBA playoff record with 42 points in the Dream's Eastern Conference title-clinching victory over the New York Liberty, tried to rally Atlanta with nine points in the final two and a half minutes.
But she and Coco Miller missed three-pointers in the final six seconds.
The Storm became the first team to win the championship without a postseason defeat since the Los Angeles Sparks went 6-0 in 2002, when the finals were a best-of-three series.
The Storm were 20-14 last year and 22-12 in 2008 but Jackson missed the playoffs both years because of injuries.
