2006 was their year and the World Cup was their stage but that was 4 long years ago!
Today, France and Italy are way out of the great World Cup 2010 center pitch in South Africa! The heroes and main casts in the World Cup 2006 finals are just plain zeroes in this year's World Cup!
Team France 2010 World Cup
France was the first to get the boot ,that is , figuratively and literally! Its record: a dismal first game draw against Uruguay (0-0) in the first round ! Then 2 consecutive defeats . First ,against Mexico (0-2) and then to hosts South Africa (1-2). That's only 1 modest goal in three WC games ! From the 1998 champs and 2010 first runner-up, all they can score is a measly 1 goal? You've got to be kidding, man !
Obviously, the core of 1998 champion team and 2006 first runner-up no longer
had the legs to kick ass all comers nor the will to simply give the opposition
stiff competition! And so, it might be the end of road for greats like Thiery Henry , Djibril Cisse , William Gallas and even Nicolas Anelka who are all in their 30's! Also, Franck Ribery and Patrice Evra may no longer be fixtures of future "Les Bleus" team!
Too bad , it's adieu for now , France!
Team Italy World Cup 2010
Italy was the next giant to fall in the 2010 World Cup! My,oh my and how they fell hard and loud with a thud heard all over the world! Just like the French, the Azzuris never won a game in this year's edition of the World Cup although they scored a total of four goals---or at least a goal per game! They drew their games against Paraguay and New Zealand in embarassing fashion -particularly against New Zealand which was playing in only its first World Cup in 28 years!
But look at this , the defending champs and heavy favorite Italians conceded five damaging goals! More so, three goals were conceded in the crucial winner take-all game against tough Slovakia (2-3)! Alas , we probably have seen the last time of the likes of the great Fabio Cannavaro, veteran Gennaro Gattuso, banger Gianluca Zambrotta and even gentle giant Gianlugi Buffon playing in future World Cups for Italy!
Now we say arrividerci Italia!
For France and Italy , thanks for now!
