The Azkals U-23 struck first early in the match,10th minute , on a left-footed strike by Josh Beloya at point blank range on the left of the box. That could have been the opportunity they needed as they looked forward to a graceful exit in the Games.
Then a confusion in the Azkals U-23 back four on the 18th minute allowed the opening that Brunei wanted to level the score at 1-all off an escape act by Adi Said. in the box. It was all that Brunei needed to boost their confidence to control the match from thereon .
Brunei's Reduan Bin Petara then found the net on the 42nd after Azkals U-23 GK Roland Muller bounced the ball off his chest after a penalty kick just above the box for 2-1 !

To be sure , the Azkals actually played a superb offensive game shooting 23 shots on target compared to Brunei D.'s 5 shots on target. Luck though didn't smile on the Azkals U-23 as they missed several shots from virtually off the goal mouth.
Brunei's hard earned win sealed a fifth place finish in their Group on top of the Philippines!
