Somewhere Over the Rainbow...
In this age of rap and pop , I wonder if there are still among us
who appreciate some feel good Academy Award-winning songs like "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" , from the American fantasy movie the Wizard of Oz , which eventually became Judy Garland's signature song.
To be sure , I haven't really seen the said movie but was able to read the the novel with the same title then got to learn the song way back in high school for our Red Cross Youth chorale competitions. While I did learn more popular songs since then, I got reacquainted with this Judy Garland song when I got to see the romantic movie "Australia" today on HBO.
It's been a long time and so many more songs filed inside my head but I still appreciate this song's simplicity of lyrics and music . It never fails to remind me of those times when my life was plain simple but very free!
Lyrics | Judy Garland - SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW lyrics
"Wizard of Oz:
Why, anybody can have a brain. That's a very mediocre commodity. Every
pusillanimous creature that crawls on the Earth or slinks through slimy
seas has a brain. Back where I come from, we have universities, seats
of great learning, where men go to become great thinkers. And when they
come out, they think deep thoughts and with no more brains than you
have. But they have one thing you haven't got: a diploma.
