Debunking the Gnostic 'Parchment: Jesus Couldn't Have Had a Wife

Debunking the Gnostic 'Parchment: Jesus Couldn't Have Had a Wife

Are we regressing back to the Gnostic heresies of old?

Have we really regressed, after 4,000 years of Divine revelation, to seeing the Trinity the way the Greeks saw the gods, sneaking into human bedrooms disguised as humans, in order to impregnate human beings so as to created demi-gods, in the process committing adultery against their divine mates ?

Karen King and Gospel of Jesus's Wife

EDMOND, OKLAHOMA (Catholic Online) - The discovery of a 4th century papyrus fragment allegedly referring to Jesus' "wife" notwithstanding, and no matter how authentic or inauthentic the document, the idea that Jesus could have carnally married an earthly woman during His earthly life is incompatible with our faith, and probably downright silly if it were not tending toward sacrilege. And this is for very important reasons that have to do with the theology of creation, of the Trinity, and of marriage as a human institution established by God for His own purposes.

Marriage is what John Paul II used to call the "primordial sacrament", in that it was inscribed in human nature from the very moment the Persons of the Trinity said the words "Let Us make man in Our image", "male and female He created them", and "the two shall become one body". But this creation story makes it perfectly clear that marriage is a created institution that is the unique privilege of created men and women, i.e., created human persons, and not at all that of uncreated Persons.

By definition, only created persons can be "made in the image of God". But Jesus, as the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity, is an uncreated Person as are the other Two Divine Persons of the Trinity. He is a Divine uncreated Person who became Incarnate. He assumed our humanity. Only created persons, and not uncreated Persons, can be said to be "made in Our image" as opposed to being "the same as Us".

The created man and woman find only in other created persons of opposite gender the possibility of making a complete, equal, and complementary self-gift of all that they are in their beings - their flesh, their souls, their PERSONS, and to do so requires by definition their equal and complementary dignity as created men and women.  That is because men and women by creation are co-naturally fit for each other, precisely for the marriage relationship.

For a Divine Person to establish a 'marriage" with a created person is ludicrous on its face -- as it would now mean the most unequal and unfit of all bonds, that of God Himself marrying a human being. It would not only be a kind of desecration of the Trinity, by virtue of making the sacred into the merely profane, but even a desecration of natural marriage, since as a farcical counterfeit it defaces the conjugal union, as with all false facsimiles of the true and beautiful.

Have we really regressed, after 4,000 years of Divine revelation, to seeing the Trinity the way the Greeks saw the gods, sneaking into human bedrooms disguised as humans, in order to impregnate human beings so as to created demi-gods, in the process committing adultery against their divine mates ?

But even this allusion to mythology is also somewhat helpful here. To use modern language, the Persons of the Trinity are "already spoken for" (the Greek idea of Divine adultery wasn't entirely far-fetched); i.e., they cannot participate this way with human created persons because they are already from all eternity making the complete self-gift of their Persons exclusively only to the other Divine Persons, who, because precisely of their co-equality One with Another, are fit and able to make that reciprocal gift.

Moreover, even the idea itself of human-Divine marriage reduces God to something other than God. Jesus is not a created human person, which would necessarily be required for Him to be able to make a complete self-gift of His Person with a woman. Giving him an earthly wife would theologically and necessarily reduce Him to only a human person, which hearkens back to the Christological heresies of old, interestingly enough those which precisely raged during this same period of time.

Are we regressing back to the Gnostic heresies of old?

Mystical analogies

But if all this is so, what about the frequent New Testament terminology making Jesus the "Bridegroom"? Does this not show the Jesus can be married? Well yes and no. Married, not so much in the earthly flesh and blood way, but in the mystical analogical way. Jesus can be said to be the Bridegroom of His Mystical Bride the Church, BY ANALOGY, and not in any other way. This relationship extends to all the faithful, insofar as they are members of that body, but none of that can be said to be a natural, carnal, actual conjugal marriage.

Until death do us part? And Resurrection reunites?

Consider something else. Even though we know Jesus could not carnally marry a woman, suppose for a moment that He could. Would His death have dissolved the union? What then of His Resurrection? Would His wife then have been free to re-marry immediately after His death on the cross? Whose wife would she then be on Easter Sunday?

Blasphemy?

It seems both sacrilegious and even blasphemous to seriously consider the possibility of Jesus having conjugal relations with a woman. For Jesus, His very Flesh would have had to be considered virginal from the moment of His conception, since in no way could His embodied sexuality ever be actualized in carnal relations with a woman and still remain a true expression of His Personal Self-gift.

So why then does a fully trained Jesuit (Father James Martin), writing an Op-Ed in the New York Times, not realize this? It seems beneath any priest-scholar worthy of the name to suggest, as the article does, that Jesus remained celibate only as a deliberate choice, even though neither our faith nor the theology of the Trinity, marriage, and creation -- according to his article -- would necessarily require it.

This seems to me just plain foolishness, or even worse. How does he get away with it? And as if this weren't enough, Father Martin goes on to say that if he were to discover that Jesus had a wife, he as a priest would nonetheless continue his life of "chastity" (better expressed "celibacy" though technically correct since chastity in the religious state requires celibacy ordinarily).

Doesn't he realize that if Jesus had an earthly wife -- implying carnal conjugal relations -- celibacy would be an utterly meaningless charade?

M.C. Hammer lost over $30m, went bankrupt and is now a pastor in California!

 Today in the News

Anybody remembers M.C. Hammer?

He did the mega hit "  U Can't Touch This" then slipped hastily into oblivion...

M.C. Hammer lost over $30m, went bankrupt and is now a pastor in California!

He's better known for his mega hit "U Can't Touch This," which helped him earn more than $30m in the early 1990s. However, he was pretty careless with the money.

He bought a $1m mansion and had a staff of 200 people working in it. On top of that, his entourage was over 40 people large. He couldn't support his lifestyle for long, and filed for bankruptcy in 1996 with over $13m in debt.

Now, he lives a quieter life as a pastor in a ranch house. He told Ebony Magazine that his "priorities were out of order." Here's the original song if you want to get a blast from the past

Sperm Can Be Stored In Females' Bodies For Years, Study Shows

Sperm Can Be Stored In Females' Bodies For Years, Study Shows

Sperm

The Huffington Post

Sometimes babies come along at inopportune times - after sex, the human body can only delay fertilization for 3 to 5 days. But what if each woman had her own personal sperm bank? What if she could hold on to sperm until she felt ready to get pregnant?

Researchers have found many females in the natural world possess the nifty ability to store sperm within their bodies for weeks and even years. In the past decade, scientists have discovered that female birds, reptiles, insects, and even whale sharks use this uncanny reproductive method. By keeping the sperm on hold, researchers say, a female can start pregnancy at her leisure.

One of the most extreme examples of this trait exists in queen ants. They can fertilize their eggs with sperm stored for up to 30 years.

But how these sneaky females pull it off?

Dr. Klaus Reinhardt from the University of Sheffield has a new study, published in Proceedings of the Royal Society B, which found that female crickets are able to store sperm within by slowing the sperm's aging process to prolong its viability.

By analyzing sperm taken from female crickets' reproductive tracts, Reinhardt and his team monitored the metabolic rate of male crickets' sperm and how many 'free radicals' it produced - measures of the sperm's aging process. The scientists found that both the metabolic rate and the level of free radicals of stored sperm were much lower than that of un-stored sperm. By dampening the aging process, females can keep sperm alive almost indefinitely.

Not interested in cricket sex? Dr. Reinhardt pointed to a practical application of this finding, saying it suggests that commonly used semen analysis tests may not accurately gauge whether a man is able to father children.

"Infertility tests on sperm are notoriously unreliable, and this could be one reason why," Dr. Reinhardt said in a written statement. "Females could be manipulating sperm."

Giant Salt Water Crocodile Captured !

Today in the News

Giant Salt Water Crocodile Captured !

Just days back , it was reported that a giant salt water crocodile was captured in the marshes of Bunawan , Agusan del Sur in Mindanao(southern Philippines)!

The 6.4 meter, more than a thousand kilo crocodile was seen to have eaten a water buffalo and suspected of devouring a local fisherman before it was captured after a three-week hunt. Interestingly, it is believed to be the largest salt water croc captured alive ; thus, the local government is planning to build a park to make the giant crocodile a tourist attraction of its town!

What is surprising here is that it took the locals three weeks and more than a hundred people to capture the giant croc ! Had they gone instead to the  Batasan Pambansa ,Quezon City , they could have easily landed a real big one from the more than two hundred hungry crocs there in no time at all with less manpower!

In fact , as reported in the news lately , one of the crocs there allegedly even bullied a helpless security guard near the University of the Philippines in Diliman ! Curiously , this croc was also one of those from a family of politicians who allegedly mauled a helpless family of golfers  in a golf course some years back!

So what's the big deal about a giant salt water croc being captured alive in Agusan when there are at least two hundred of them seen daily  in Quezon City ?

And to think that the Bunawan folks are even  planning to build a park for their captured giant crocodile to make it a tourist attraction even when there are already more than two hundred crocodiles freely roaming in a tourist spot called the Batasan?

Cristiano Ronaldo’s new Ferrari looks like a Batmobile

This is Cristiano Ronaldo's new blacked out Ferrari, parked on the sidewalk outside a Japanese restaurant in Lisbon last week. The Portuguese press (via Globo) reports that it cost Cristiano €350,000. It's unclear whether the car has a missile defense system or any other features befitting a Batmobile, but at €350,000 it probably should.

Hopefully this one doesn't end up like his last Ferrari.

Cruel Practices of Slaughtering Cattle in Indonesia !
from AP/Yahoo! News

Australia recently announced the suspension of live cattle exports to Indonesia on account of the latter's "cruel" methods of slaughtering cattle! The cruel practices of animal slaughter in Indonesia was recently documented on video by an animal welfare group based in Australia  which exports up to 40 per cent of Indonesia's beef  consumption amounting to roughly Australian $ 33O Million  annually!

According to an article , " RSPCA chief scientist Bidda Jones, who analyzed the video slaughter of 50 cattle, said the slaughter men used on average 11 cuts to the throat to kill each animal, and as many as 33. The Australian standard was death within 30 seconds.

"They basically hack the heads off with blunt knifes, causing a lot of distress and pain," Jones said.

Furthermore, there were documented cases where " video showed abattoir workers break a bull's tail and repeatedly gouge its eyes and nostrils in failed attempts to get the animal to regain its feet, despite a broken leg."

Below are some video footage showing  cruel practices of slaughtering cattle in Indonesia...

Anthony Weiner: The most eye-catching ‘Weinergate’ cartoons so far...

Now that Rep. Anthony Weiner has ‘fessed up today about his pervy form of social “networking,” Comic Riffs can say with certitude that editorial cartoonists are having a field day with the congressman’s underpants-flashing shenanigans.

Sure, the target might be like shooting kingfish in a barrel, but some satirists are hitting their marks with especial flair.

The blowdarts range from racy animations — the Taiwanese-based artists at Next Media Animation have fun with the congressman’s surname — to less-frontal approaches to the matter.

Here are some of the most eye-catching we’ve seen so far.

Friendster deleting account content you totally forgot you had

Friendster deleting account content you totally forgot you had

Friendster

We were so young ...

Digital hoarders who wish to retain mementos of their first all-consuming social network (outside of Nerve.com's dating site) should make a trip over to Friendster and clear out their digital lockers before May 31. "The company is asking all users to install a custom application to export all their profile data, as most of it will be unequivocally deleted on May 31, 2011," reports Tech Crunch.
Friendster encourages all users to use the "Friendster Exporter" app to download or export their profile information, friends list, photos, messages, comments, testimonials, shoutouts, blogs and groups. Options include porting content to Flickr or Multiply.
On May 31, Friendster will move to wipe out all photos, blogs, comments and groups uploaded or created by its users. The company will, however, keep all accounts alive, along with user friends lists, games details and basic profile information.
Launched in 2002, Friendster gained hundreds of thousands of followers before it gave way to that glitter gif-littered has-been social network of the future, MySpace. Friendster had puny servers and it constantly crashed, but it was awesome while it lasted.

U.S. citizens formerly of Friendster may be surprised to hear that it's still quite popular in the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. Those Americans who continue to receive Friendster notifications about foreign ladies looking for "friendship," are maybe not so surprised.

At any rate, Malaysian payments company MOL Global aquired Friendster at the end of 2009 for a reported $40 million, and now plans to turn it into an entertainment and games hub catering to Asian users. Which, as TechCrunch points out, "sounds exactly like Myspace when they started feeling the Facebook heat for real."
(Except for the catering-to-Asians part.)

As a Friendster early-adopter, I can't help but get misty-eyed.

"Friendster will be back ... and use Facebook Connect," pointed out my co-worker Rosa Golijan, who, notably, is too young to have ever used Friendster. "It'll be like a social networking 'Inception,' " Golijan added in a valiant attempt to comfort and/or mess with me.

"Insert 'yo dawg, I hear you like social networks so I put a social network inside your social network so that you can poke' joke here."

Kids. They don't get real loss.

I can't even retort with a snappy, "Wait til this happens to your precious Facebook!" because honestly, I don't believe Facebook —that Madonna of social networks — will meet the fate or Friendster, MySpace and especially not Orkut. (Remember Orkut!?!) It'll be a long time before the Lady Gaga of social networks comes around because, like Madonna, Facebook knows how to ... you know ... blah blah blah ...

Excuse the hackneyed pop singer metaphor. I'm just ... a little choked up.

Today in the News !

Today in the News !

What is it about one's face? Are you pretty or handsome?Or something more? If so , what defines a pretty or handsome face? After all , isn't beauty merely in the eyes of the beholder?

But here's an interesting take on one's looks ?Or "no looks"? There has been a very recent identification of a profile of the most typical face released on video by the National Geographic Magazine!

We must take note though that everything is "relative" including what's "typical" according to NatGeo Mag!

The most typical face on the planet

By Liz Goodwin

National Geographic Magazine released a video clip, below, showing the most "typical" human face on the planet as part of its series on the human race called "Population 7 billion."

The researchers conclude that a male, 28-year-old Han Chinese man is the most typical person on the planet. There are 9 million of them.
The image above is a composite of nearly 200,000 photos of men who fit that description.
Don't get used to the results, however. Within 20 years, the most typical person will reside in India.

You can check the video below :
