Vigilant and Faithful Servants
Lk 12:35-38
[Jesus said to his disciples,] 35 “Gird your loins and light your lamps 36and be like servants who await their master’s return from a wedding, ready to open immediately when he comes and knocks. 37Blessed are those servants whom the master finds vigilant on his arrival. Amen, I say to you, he will gird himself, have them recline at table, and proceed to wait on them. 38And should he come in the second or third watch and find them prepared in this way, blessed are those servants.”
BLESSED ARE THOSE SERVANTS. Good domestic helpers or kasambahay do what they are told by their employers—taking care of the children, the kitchen, or the laundry, keeping the house clean, and doing other household chores.
In the Gospel, the master of the servants who are doing their duties well is pictured as serving the latter. It seems unbelievable that the master should be serving the slaves! But that is how God, in his loving kindness, will reward people who have carried out their duties and observed God’s commands.
As God’s servants, we should faithfully give our service. We should be vigilant as well, for God can come at an unexpected time. Blessed are we if we are always ready to open the door for our Master. At any point in our life, we must be ready to meet our Master, Creator, and God, all the while doing what we should be doing.
Are you an industrious servant of God?
Do you put love in the work that you do?
