Jn 14:1-6

[Jesus said to his disciples,] 1“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me. 2In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be. 4Where [I] am going you know the way.” 5Thomas said to him, “Master, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?” 6Jesus said to him, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

No one comes to the Father except through me. Jesus proclaims himself to be the way. Though facing his impending passion and death, Jesus offers comfort and compassion to the apprehensive and frightened disciples. Death is not the end for one who has faith and trust in God.

There is so much anxiety, falsehood, and confusion in our world today. Some self-serving or self-appointed ministers of God are into the race of getting more following with the use of multi-media channels reaching vast audiences. One, in fact, practically claims that his mission comes from above and that he has been appointed by God the Father.

But the intimate communion with God that Jesus offers to the world cannot come from below (cf Jn 8:23) or from the flesh (cf 6:63). It cannot be the reverse of the Incarnation, for it is God who has loved us first.

How do you react to people who claim
that they have found heaven right here on earth?
