Blessing of the Children

Mt 19:13-15

¹³Children were brought to [Jesus] that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked them, ¹⁴but Jesus said, “Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” ¹⁵After he placed his hands on them, he went away.

Reflection:

Children were brought to Jesus. The mothers do something pleasing to Jesus as they bring their children to him to have him bless the little ones and pray for them. Jesus, in fact, rebukes the disciples for trying to block the mothers and tells them, “Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them.”

Parents (first of all) and other adults should endeavor to bring their children to Jesus. To bring them to Jesus and to help them become holy should be the first goal of parents for their children.

Unfortunately, this is not what usually happens. The first ambition of many parents is to make their children financially and socially successful in life or have them earn much and get high positions in society. And sadly, many parents prevent their children from coming to Jesus because of their bad example.

Let us pray for Christian parents and help them

fulfill their responsibilities to their children.
