The Healings at Gennesaret

Mk 6:53-56
53After making the crossing, [Jesus and his disciples] came to land at Gennesaret and tied up there. 54As they were leaving the boat, people immediately recognized him. 55They scurried about the surrounding country and began to bring in the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was. 56Whatever
villages or towns or countryside he entered, they laid the sick in the
marketplaces and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his
cloak; and as many as touched it were healed.
Reflection:
That they might touch only the tassel on his cloak.
Jesus has a healing touch. He touches people and they are healed. But
in the Gospel, it is when people touch Jesus, or just the tassel on his
cloak, that they are healed. What brings healing is the people’s
touching Jesus with their faith, and not only with their hands.
Today
we, too, can reach out to Jesus in faith. Often I see people touching
the images of Jesus the Nazarene or the Crucified One. When they touch
the images they are actually reaching out in faith to Jesus. They do the
same to us, priests. People reach out to us, sometimes pulling our
hands, because they believe that blessing will be given them. I am sure
that God who sees hearts responds to the faith of such people as well.
Participate at a healing Mass
and be touched by Jesus.
