The Cleansing of a Leper

Lk 5:12-16
12There
was a man full of leprosy in one of the towns where [Jesus] was; and
when he saw Jesus, he fell prostrate, pleaded with him, and said, “Lord,
if you wish, you can make me clean.” 13Jesus stretched out his hand, touched him, and said, “I do will it. Be made clean.” And the leprosy left him immediately. 14Then
he ordered him not to tell anyone, but, “Go, show yourself to the
priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses prescribed; that will be
proof for them.” 15The report about him spread all the more, and great crowds assembled to listen to him and to be cured of their ailments, 16but he would withdraw to deserted places to pray.
Reflection:
Jesus touched the leper.
Jesus not only touches the leper physically, literally; he also touches
the man’s heart and his life. Jesus cures him, makes him happy, and
restores him to participation in the social life of the people.
At
the end of the Gospel, we read that Jesus withdraws “to deserted places
to pray.” In all his busyness, Jesus does not lose touch with God. He
keeps in touch with God through prayer. Such is Jesus—a person who is in
touch with God and who touches the lives of people.
If you want to touch lives and make a difference in people’s lives, keep in touch with God through prayer.
Being in touch with God in prayer
is the secret of touching people’s lives.
