Jesus and His Relatives

Today's Reflections

Jesus and His Relatives

Mk 3:20-21

20[Jesus] came home. Again [the] crowd gathered, making it impossible for them even to eat. 21When his relatives heard of this they set out to seize him, for they said, “He is out of his mind.”

Reflection:

He is out of his mind. It must be painful for Jesus to see that his own relatives do not understand him or believe in him. They think that he is out of his mind, when in fact he is only obsessed with the work of his Father.

It is not easy for people to understand their own relatives when these relatives are grabbed by the grace of God. See what happened to St. Francis of Assisi. When he was converted and started to share with other people the things from his father’s store, Pietro Bernardone, his father, reported him to the bishop and asked that Francis return every item to him. His father must have thought Francis had become mad.

Many true followers of Christ have been regarded as fools. But the foolishness of God is wiser than men.

Are you willing and ready to be considered
a fool for Christ?
