Jesus’ Testimony to John
Mt 11:11-15
[Jesus said to the crowds,] 11“Amen,
I say to you, among those born of women there has been none greater
than John the Baptist; yet the least in the kingdom of heaven is greater
than he. 12From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent are taking it by force. 13All the prophets and the law prophesied up to the time of John. 14And if you are willing to accept it, he is Elijah, the one who is to come. 15Whoever has ears ought to hear.”
Reflection:
The kingdom of heaven suffers violence.
People at times resort to violence to achieve their goals. Some seek to
destroy others just to get even. Others spread intrigue and malice as
revenge. This is what John the Baptist suffers as he performs the task
of being the Lord’s messenger.
Jesus
has words of praise for John. The prophet does not give up or walk
away. Instead, he fulfills his mission as forerunner of the Messiah till
death.
The
way of Jesus is the way of the cross. We are walking his way when we
are willing to forgive, to endure pain and hardship for others, to offer
peace and mercy. Jesus is greatly pleased when we make love,
compassion, and contrition reign in our hearts and in our homes.
Who are the persons I must affirm, appreciate,
and be thankful for?
