Walking on the Water

Jn 6:16-21
16When it was evening, [the] disciples [of Jesus] went down to the sea, 17embarked in a boat, and went across the sea to
Capernaum. It had already grown dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them. 18The sea was stirred up because a strong wind was blowing. 19When
they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the
sea and coming near the boat, and they began to be afraid. 20But he said to them, “It is I. Do not be afraid.” 21They wanted to take him into the boat, but the boat immediately arrived at the shore to which they were heading.
Reflection:
It is I. Do not be afraid!
With these reassuring words, Jesus reveals his identity and manifests
his divinity. His presence brings peace, comfort, and consolation.
Whenever Jesus intervenes, whenever he appears, we experience safety,
security, and salvation. We have no reason to be afraid in our
pilgrimage of life.
When we are beset with countless
problems, rocked by destructive intrigues, and confronted with
conflicting choices, let us not be afraid. Let us humbly ask for his
saving intervention and trust him. Jesus always watches over us. He
does not leave us alone. He cares truly about our welfare. He will
bring us to the shore of security. Jesus walks with us to show us the
way to heaven and lead us back to God. He works for what is best for
us. We have no reason to fear. Let us trust him and take his word of
reassurance.
