Jn 3:16-21
16God so loved the world
that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might
not perish but might have eternal life. 17For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. 18Whoever
believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has
already been condemned, because he has not believed in the name of the
only Son of God. 19And this is the verdict, that the light
came into the world, but people preferred darkness to light, because
their works were evil. 20For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come toward the light, so that his works might not be exposed. 21But whoever lives the truth comes to the light, so that his works may be clearly seen as done in God.
Reflection:
That the world might be saved.
If we want to know how best to describe God, the answer is this: God is
love. If we want to know why we have been created, why we have been
given chance after chance, and why we have been saved, forgiven, and
healed, the answer is the same: God is love.
Do you want to see proof of God’s love?
Look at Jesus crucified. Do you want to know how far and how deep God’s
love is? Lift up your hearts and eyes to the cross. As St. Augustine
puts it, “God shows his sublime love when he sends his only Son to us.
The Son, Jesus, shows his unconditional love when he gives himself up
on the cross.”
We are a people of faith. We believe in
the cross of Jesus. We accept and carry our own cross. We are confident
that the cross of Jesus leads us to eternal life.
Stay for a few minutes before the cross of Christand see there God’s great love for you.
