The Appearance to the Disciples
Mk 16:9-15
9When [Jesus] had risen, early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons. 10She went and told his companions who were mourning and weeping. 11When they heard that he was alive and had been seen by her, they did not believe.
12After this he appeared in another form to two of them walking along on their way to the country. 13They returned and told the others; but they did not believe them either.
14[But] later, as the eleven were at table, he appeared to them and rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart because they had not believed those who saw him after he had been raised. 15He said to them, “Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature.”
Reflection:
Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel. The risen Jesus rebukes the disciples for their unbelief and hardness of heart because they did not believe those who had seen him after he had been raised. Among these witnesses are Mary Magdalene and the two disciples on the road to Emmaus. Still, Jesus keeps faith in the disciples and sends them to bear his good news to all the world.
How about us? Do we ask for signs? Do we need proofs to believe? Let us remember that, as the saying goes, for those who have faith, no proof is needed, but for those who have no faith, no explanation is sufficient.
Let us trust Jesus’ words. Let us feel his presence in our hearts and in our lives. And let us take up our mission to share the good news of the risen Lord to our world.
In what ways do you share the good newsof Jesus’ resurrection to your family and friends?
