Mt 11:25-27

[On one occasion,] 25Jesus said, “I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike. 26Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will. 27All things have been handed over to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.”

Reflection:

You have revealed them to the childlike. In a chapter made heavy by the unbelief and unrepentance of so many, these words of Jesus come like unexpected sunshine. He thanks the Father, for although he has hidden many things from the wise and the learned (like the scribes and the Pharisees), he has revealed them to the childlike.

It is not necessarily those who have studied much and have earned academic degrees who know (and not only know about) God and Jesus and their Spirit, but those who receive the Word of God in humility and simplicity. St. Therese of the Child Jesus never set foot on a theological college but has been declared a doctor (teacher) of the Church, Doctor of Divine Love. She is a teacher of popes, cardinals, bishops, priests, religious, and the ordinary faithful about God’s love which she knew so well through prayer and experience.

Be childlike and know God!
