False Prophets

Mt 7:15-20
[Jesus said to his disciples,] 15“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but underneath are ravenous wolves. 16By their fruits you will know them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17Just so, every good tree bears good fruit, and a rotten tree bears bad fruit. 18A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a rotten tree bear good fruit. 19Every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. 20So by their fruits you will know them.”
Reflection:
By their fruits you will know them.
There was once a religious leader who led all his followers to kill
themselves. Today there are leaders who persuade their followers to be
suicide bombers. We know that these poisoned, deadly acts come from
poisoned teachings.
In
our society today, many poisonous teachings are passed off for truth
when, in fact, they poison our society. There is the consumer mentality
that says, “Your value depends on how much you produce and how much you
have.” There is another false wisdom that says, “You may break all the
commandments, but make sure you do not break the most important one:
‘You shall not be caught.’ ” Greed in business has killed many people,
but sometimes all we say is, “Moderate your greed.”
Let us get rid of the poisonous teachings
spread by the example of bad teachers in our society.
