Today's Reflections

Hundredfold Reward

Mk 10:28-31
28Peter began to say to [Jesus], “We have given up everything and followed you.” 29Jesus
said, “Amen, I say to you, there is no one who has given up house or
brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands for my sake
and for the sake of the gospel 30who will not receive a
hundred times more now in this present age: houses and brothers and
sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and
eternal life in the age to come. 31But many that are first will be last, and [the] last will be first.”
Reflection:
We have given up everything and followed you.
To Peter who makes this declaration, Jesus gives the assurance that
those who have given up house or brothers or sisters or mother or father
or children or lands for his sake and for the sake of the gospel will
receive a hundredfold of these already in this world, and eternal life
in the age to come.
Jesus
asks us to renounce something only in order for him to give us more
than we have renounced. And whenever we give up anything for him and for
the gospel, Jesus will reward us with much, much more already in this
life plus eternal life. We can never outdo God and Jesus in generosity.
They have greater love and greater resources than we have.
Give up something precious for your faith
and see what comes back to you.
