Blessing of the Children

Mk 10:13-16
13People were bringing children to [Jesus] that he might touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. 14When
Jesus saw this he became indignant and said to them, “Let the children
come to me; do not prevent them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such
as these. 15Amen, I say to you, whoever does not accept the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it.” 16Then he embraced them and blessed them, placing his hands on them.
Reflection:
Jesus embraced the children and blessed them. Jesus
loves children. He wants them to be brought to him. Let us bring our
children to Jesus, and not hinder them by our bad example. Let us teach
our children how to pray and prepare them to receive the sacraments of
the Church.
Jesus blesses children. Let us also bless our children and pray for them that they may be filled with the blessings of Jesus.
Jesus wants his followers to be childlike, but not childish. To be childish is to be isip-bata, to have a child’s mentality. That is not good for an adult. To be childlike is to be pusong-bata, to have the heart of a child—open to receive God’s gifts and trustingly dependent on God.
We are called to be childlike
even when we grow into adulthood.
