Mt 13:44-46

[Jesus said to his disciples,] 44“The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field, which a person finds and hides again, and out of joy goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. 45Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant searching for fine pearls. 46When he finds a pearl of great price, he goes and sells all that he has and buys it.”

Reflection:

A pearl of great price. The buried treasure and the pearl are precious, expensive, and valuable objects that point only to one reality—Jesus. The people in the parable give up everything they have just to own what they deem precious in life.

They take the risk. They are patient and work hard to attain their goal. They are willing to sacrifice.
Jesus teaches us to imitate the merchant and the treasure finder. We have to discover Jesus, search for him, and work hard to find him in our everyday life, at home and in the workplace, in society and in the Church. As we experience and encounter him, we must be willing to sacrifice so that we will never lose him. It is because where our heart is, that is where our life revolves.

What are we looking for in this life? Do we seek Jesus?
What is the most precious thing that we will give up
in order to have Jesus in our life?
