The Weeds among the Wheat

Mt 13:24-30
24[Jesus] proposed [a] parable to [the crowds]. “The kingdom of heaven may be likened to a man who sowed good seed in his field. 25While everyone was asleep his enemy came and sowed weeds all through the wheat, and then went off. 26When the crop grew and bore fruit, the weeds appeared as well. 27The slaves of the householder came to him and said, ‘Master, did you not sow good seed in your field? Where have the weeds come from?’ 28He answered, ‘An enemy has done this.’ His slaves said to him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’ 29He replied, ‘No, if you pull up the weeds you might uproot the wheat along with them. 30Let them grow together until harvest; then at harvest time I will say to the harvesters, “First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles for burning; but gather the wheat into my barn.” ’ ”
Reflection:
Weeds or wheat. God is patient. God waits for us to return to him. God is always giving us opportunities to grow, produce, and be fruitful. God believes in our goodness. Even if we are surrounded with so many weeds, such as sins and selfishness, pains and problems, temptations and troubles, we can still overcome these weeds. God gives us chances so that the wheat in us will produce an abundant harvest.
We can say that God postpones his judgment. God allows time for us to be faithful and fruitful. God gives us time and space so that we can repent and reconcile with God. At the same time, God assures us that he is always with us. At harvest time, God will reward our perseverance and fidelity to God’s will and commandments.
Let us stay open to God’s grace and presence so that we will end up as wheat, and not as weeds, for God and for others.
What are the weeds in our lives
that we have to get rid of?
Or what must we do to change weeds into wheat?
