Mt 11:20-24

20[Jesus] began to reproach the towns where most of his mighty deeds had been done, since they had not repented. 21“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty deeds done in your midst had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would long ago have repented in sackcloth and ashes. 22But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you. 23And as for you, Capernaum:/ ‘Will you be exalted to heaven?/ You will go down to the netherworld.’/ For if the mighty deeds done in your midst had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. 24But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.”

Reflection:

Woe to you, Chorazin! Chorazin is the site of the synagogue that houses the seat of Moses. Bethsaida is the place of the multiplication of the loaves and fish. Capernaum, Simon Peter’s hometown, is the second home of Jesus during his public ministry. In these places, Jesus has performed miracles or mighty deeds. Thus they can very be considered pilgrimage sites, important places. Yet they are condemned. Why? It is because they have failed the Lord’s expectations. Despite the divine gift, they have not changed their hearts.

God always works wonders in our lives through blessings and opportunities. We must not waste them. We must do what God expects of us. We must change our hearts. We must return to God and grow in holiness. We must reciprocate God’s goodness with good deeds and changed lives.

Are we living up to what God is expecting from us? Do we make full use
of God’s gifts, miracles, blessings, and graces?
