Stroke now has a 4th indicator, says cardiologist in e-mail pass-ons

DAVAO CITY, Philippines (PNA Feature) - Can anybody detect symptoms of stroke?

Yes, even a mere bystander, according to an anonymous cardiologist who has passed on simple tips on how to diagnose a person hit by a mild or severe stroke just seconds ago.

The tips were contained in a Yahoo e-mail passed-on thing sent by a university professor in this city who encourages recipients to spread the tips to at least l0 persons in a bid to save more lives from stroke strikes.

The unknown cardiologist says stroke patient can be saved within three hours if properly diagnosed and applied right procedure by a cardiologist called in to the side of the patient.

In the beginning, the cardiologist e-mailer recalled there were only three-letter code reminders to battle with stroke: S T R which means Smile, Talk and Raise.

Anyone on the scene can diagnose for the incoming cardiologist by asking the stroke victim to smile, talk or deliver a brief speech as one sentence and let him or her raise both arms.

If any of those cannot be executed by the patient, then he has a problem.

And now, the fourth indication can be done through the tongue symptom.

The generous cardiologist of cyberspace said if the tongue cannot wag properly, then certainly the patient is struck by a stroke. A time to call 9-11!

Not only forwarding the tips to 10 e-mail addresses, I am also writing about them because they make sense although the author remains anonymous.

Who knows I could be among the conduit of such information to save one or two more stroke victims here and around the world.
