Mt 13:54-58

54[Jesus] came to his native place and taught the people in their synagogue. They were astonished and said, “Where did this man get such wisdom and mighty deeds? 55Is he not the carpenter’s son? Is not his mother named Mary and his brothers James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas? 56Are not his sisters all with us? Where did this man get all this?” 57And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his native place and in his own house.” 58And he did not work many mighty deeds there because of their lack of faith.

Reflection:

The carpenter’s son. The Church honors St. Joseph the Worker. Joseph is a silent worker, peaceful and tranquil, humble and dedicated. His is a quiet life. No spoken words are attributed to him in the gospels. But Joseph’s life speaks louder than words. He conscientiously obeys God’s will and faithfully does what God tells him to do. He dedicates his whole life for Jesus and Mary.

Let us not brag about our achievements or flaunt our position and power. Let us allow our actions to speak about our life. If our life is pleasing to God, in fact, God will speak for us and about us.

Joseph’s example asks us to look at how we work. Are we contented or do we always complain? Are we dedicated to our work or half-hearted with it? Let us remember that when we work in silence, we can be more fruitful. If we work in peace, work can be more enjoyable. If we work like Joseph, we glorify God.

Be committed to your workafter the example of St. Joseph.
