Jn 14:7-14

[Jesus said to his disciples,] 7“If you know me, then you will also know my Father. From now on you do know him and have seen him.” 8Philip said to him, “Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.” 9Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you for so long a time and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own. The Father who dwells in me is doing his works. 11Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else, believe because of the works themselves. 12Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes in me will do the works that I do, and will do greater ones than these, because I am going to the Father. 13And whatever you ask in my name, I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14If you ask anything of me in my name, I will do it.”

Reflection:

Believe me. Jesus exhorts his disciples not only to trust his words but to believe in them completely. What he has spoken is the truth—not his own, but the Father’s. He and the Father are one because the Father is in him and he is in the Father. The union between Jesus and the Father is proven by the deeds that Jesus does to honor and glorify his Father. By his signs or wondrous acts of turning water into wine, healing the sick, feeding the crowd, and raising Lazarus from the dead, Jesus reveals the Father’s saving love at work through his person.

To believe in Jesus’ teaching and his works is to believe in Jesus as the Son of God. Everything that he said and did testifies to his true identity. Totally committed to give glory to his Father, Jesus receives from his Father the honor due him as the Son. Faith in Jesus leads to faith in the Father. But this will be possible only through the Spirit of truth who alone will guide the disciples to all truth. As the Son glorified the Father and the Father exalted the Son, the Spirit will glorify the Son.

At the end of the day, praise the Lord for specific workshe has done for you.
