Jn 16:20-23

[Jesus said to his disciples,] 20“Amen, amen, I say to you, you will weep and mourn, while the world rejoices; you will grieve, but your grief will become joy. 21When a woman is in labor, she is in anguish because her hour has arrived; but when she has given birth to a child, she no longer remembers the pain because of her joy that a child has been born into the world. 22So you also are now in anguish. But I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy away from you. 23On that day you will not question me about anything. Amen, amen, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you.”

Reflection:

Your Grief will Become joy. Being with Jesus entails pain. We have to sacrifice for Jesus, give up comfort and convenience, and let go of privilege and attachment. It is painful to experience separation and adapt to a new assignment and a different place. But we have to move out for the sake of Christ and the Church. It is painful to carry the cross and undergo our own crucifixion. But we have to accept our cross so that we can be fruitful for God and for the gospel.

By being faithful to Jesus until the end, pain will turn to victory, agony to glory, cross to victory, sorrow to joy. Thus, to be with Jesus is to experience joy, peace in our heart, harmony, tranquility, and security even in this life.

Jesus brings joy to suffering, relief to pain, and comfort to an aching heart. Jesus soothes our broken spirit and heals our hurts.

What sacrifice are you ready to make for Jesus?
