Jn 14:27-31a

[Jesus said to his disciples,] 27“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid. 28You heard me tell you, ‘I am going away and I will come back to you.’ If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father; for the Father is greater than I. 29And now I have told you this before it happens, so that when it happens you may believe. 30I will no longer speak much with you, for the ruler of the world is coming. He has no power over me, 31abut the world must know that I love the Father and that I do just as the Father has commanded me.”

Reflection:

My peace I give to you. Peace here does not mean absence of crisis and conflict or freedom from trials and troubles. The peace of Jesus is an assurance that he is with us. His peace means that we can always count on his care and concern for us.

Even if Jesus will return to the Father; he assures us that we will be reconciled with the Father. His going back to the Father means that we will be at peace with the Father. We can be sure of the Father’s constant love and forgiveness. And being at peace with the Father will strengthen us to endure tribulations and sufferings.
The peace of Jesus unites us with the Father. His peace makes us feel loved and saved by the Father.

Receiving the peace of the risen Christ,we are called to be instruments of God’s peace.
