Today's Reflections

Teaching about the Law

Mt 5:17-19

[Jesus said to his disciples,] 17“Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. 18Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter will pass from the law, until all things have taken place. 19Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the kingdom of heaven. But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments will be called greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”

Reflection:

WHOEVER OBEYS AND TEACHES. Jesus calls for reverence towards God’s commandments and his teachings. This does not mean just silent knowledge or acceptance. What is needed is an attitude of obedience and a faithful observance. God’s commandments must be truly observed and sincerely applied.
God’s commandments are to be found not in the words of our lips but in the works of our hands. We live them in our hearts, not just remember them in our heads. God’s commandments are meant to be the guiding principles of our life. Our obedience to the commandments is our concrete manifestation of love for God and neighbor.

Do I take time out to read the Bible?
Do I make an effort to put into practice
what I have learned?
