Mk 6:53-56

53After making the crossing [to the other side of the sea], [Jesus and his disciples] came to land at Gennesaret and tied up there. 54As they were leaving the boat, people immediately recognized him. 55They scurried about the surrounding country and began to bring in the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was. 56Whatever villages or towns or countryside he entered, they laid the sick in the marketplaces and begged him that they might touch only the tassel on his cloak; and as many as touched it were healed.

Reflection:

People immediately recognized him. How do the people look at Jesus? They see him as a divine healer, with power over sickness, capable of performing miracles. So they seek him and come to him, touching the tassel of his cloak and getting healed. But Jesus is concerned not just with physical healing but also with spiritual recovery. Jesus does not seek popularity but brings salvation.

We do not seek Jesus to get something from him. We do not follow Jesus for what he can give us or what we can receive from him. We do not believe in Jesus just because of his miracles. We recognize Jesus as our Savior, our hope and our life, our way to the Father. We come to Jesus because we love him. We accept Jesus because we want him to take control of our lives. We believe Jesus because we place our faith and our trust in him, in his word and in his ways.

How do you recognize Jesus?W
What do you want Jesus to do for you?
