The Parable of the Lost Sheep

Today's Reflections

The Parable of the Lost Sheep

Mt 18:12-14

[Jesus said to his disciples,] 12“What is your opinion? If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them goes astray, will he not leave the ninety-nine in the hills and go in search of the stray? 13And if he finds it, amen, I say to you, he rejoices more over it than over the ninety-nine that did not stray. 14In just the same way, it is not the will of your heavenly Father that one of these little ones be lost.”

Reflection:

He rejoices more over it than over the ninety-nine that did not stray. Whenever I am in a beautiful place, I always wish my siblings were with me and see the place, too. Whenever a group in my parish goes for a picnic, I quietly wish all my parishioners were enjoying that wonderful moment with the rest of us. Yes, I relish the scenery and the moment with the present group. But I feel I would enjoy it more if all my family or my parishioners were there, too. When I am happy, I want all my loved ones to be there with me, sharing my joy.

This must be what Jesus means when he describes the rejoicing more over one who has strayed than over the ninety-nine who were never lost. The best things in life are always enjoyed better with all our loved ones.
Treat your family out today.
