Lk 7:18b-23

18John summoned two of his disciples 19and sent them to the Lord to ask, “Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for another?” 20When the men came to [Jesus], they said, “John the Baptist has sent us to you to ask, ‘Are you the one who is to come, or should we look for another?’ ”
21At that time [Jesus] cured many of their diseases, sufferings, and evil spirits; he also granted sight to many who were blind. 22And he said to them in reply, “Go and tell John what you have seen and heard: the blind regain their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have the good news proclaimed to them. 23And blessed is the one who takes no offense at me.”

Reflection:

Tell John what you have seen and heard. A person’s actions are the best gauge as to who one really is. During national and local elections, people sometimes ask me as to who is the best among the candidates running for a political office. I give three bases for my choice. One, what is their real agenda? Some have their businesses to protect. Others have their financiers’ agenda at their backs. Second, who are usually with them? Who are their friends and supporters? Drug lords or gambling operators may be their secret financiers; that is a frightening scenario. Third, what have they done to prove their worth? Their actions will betray them.

Jesus has a strong track record: “the blind regain their sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have the good news proclaimed to them.”

We, too, will be judged in the end by what we have done for the little ones.
