The Coming of Elijah

Today's Reflections

The Coming of Elijah

Mt 17:9a, 10-13

9As they were coming down from the mountain, 10the disciples asked [Jesus], “Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?” 11He said in reply, “Elijah will indeed come and restore all things; 12but I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him but did to him whatever they pleased. So also will the Son of Man suffer at their hands.” 13Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them of John the Baptist.

Reflection:

He was speaking to them of John the Baptist. It is said that no prophet lives to see his dream come true. Heroes die fighting for their country’s cause, and they die or are killed like criminals, only for their images to be honored when the freedom they have died for is achieved. Jesus foretells that he will suffer the same fate as John and all the prophets. This does not stop him or make him waver. He goes on and calmly faces his fate.

We are in constant need of prophets for our times. And we are wanting of such good men because we always kill them. We do not listen to them and prefer to go our old selfish ways.

Read the papers thoroughly and know the issues at hand.
