Smart Gilas Phl enters the Semis of the 26th FIBA Asia Championship as it came back to demolish dangerous Chinese-Taipei , 95-78 !
While the result suggests a route , the game was tightly fought for most of the first half with Chinese-Taipei even leading by as much as 9 points, 14-23, heading into end of the first quarter .Only in the last minute of the first half was Smart Gilas able to gain the lead for 45-42 at the break.
It was easy sailing for Smart Gilas from then on as it even erected a whopping 19-point lead with 7:45 left in the fourth quarter only to be efficiently chopped down to 7 points, 85-78.with time down to 2:31. Smart Gilas then went into a 10 to nothing streak of its own to jack up the lead to 17 points for the final scoreline !
Naturalized center Marcus Douthit led all scorers with a monster game 37 points and ten rebounds!
Smart Gilas will be facing resurgent Jordan ,which earlier upset defending champion Iran , 88-84, in the first Semis game at 3:30 pm tomorrow.
Meanwhile , South Korea routed rival Japan in the second Q'Finals game and waits for the winner of the China-Lebanon match for the other Semis game following the Smart Gilas-Jordan game.
