Samaritan Inhospitality

September 26, 2011, 11:28pm

Luke 9:51-56

When the days for Jesus to be taken up were fulfilled, He resolutely determined to journey to Jerusalem,  and He sent messengers ahead of Him. On the way they entered a Samaritan village to prepare for His reception there, but they would not welcome Him because the destination of His journey was Jerusalem. When the disciples James and John saw this they asked, “Lord, do You want us to call down fire from heaven to consume them?” Jesus turned and rebuked them, and they journeyed to another village.

Reflection

He resolutely determined to journey. Jesus is able to bear pain and suffering because of this determination. A friend of mine decided to marry his girlfriend in spite of opposition from his family and friends.
He loved her and was faithful to her though the family continued to dislike her, even when they already had children. His reason was simple: “I chose her. I love her and she is now my wife.” His determination was resolute. Their marriage survived and flourished.

We will be successful, even without others’ help, if we have a determined heart. A man was asked how he would climb the steep mountain before him. His reply was simple, too: “My heart is there already at the peak. I just have to follow it.”

Decide to accomplish one resolution within this week.
