Last 2 Minutes : Smart Gilas

26th FIBA Asia Championship

Last 2 Minutes : Smart Gilas

The last time I checked, basketball is played for at least 40 minutes!

Smart Gilas was on its way to a podium finish (for the first time in almost 3 decades) in the FIBA Asia Championship and, more importantly , a hotly contested slot in the 2012 FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament! Then without warning , they started to collapse heading into the last 2 minutes after leading in the game for 38 minutes or so!

End game "collapse" is perhaps the politically correct way to put it so as not to put any blame on anybody!

And so , Smart Gilas bowed to S. Korea ,68-70 ! Thus, no bronze and neither any  2012 London Olympics Qualifiers wild card slot !

To be sure, Gilas played excellent basketball until that collapse going into the final 2 minutes! Perhaps , it was just the breaks of the game ? Or the "jinx factor" ? Maybe just just sloppy play on the part of Gilas? Whatever the cause/s of the collapse, let the experts figure out...

Thank you Smart Gilas!
