Do you want to lose weight? There are, quite
literally, millions of ideas out there. I googled the question and my
search yielded 106 million references. Can you imagine that? One hundred
and six million references on how to lose weight!
It’s really no great wonder, when watching skinny girls on the
catwalk and looking at how good their clothes fit them becomes more than
enough to make us look at our own body, and feel depressed and
miserable.
But all those promises about weight loss – from potions to lotions to
notions, and from infomercials, billboards and glossies – just leave us
with the same fat and bulges, and with less money in our wallet. I
remember motivational speaker Zig Ziglar saying, “I tried one of those
30-day diet plans. It worked for me – I lost 30 days!”
A story goes where two youngsters were closely examining bathroom scales on display at the department store.
“What’s it for?” one asked.
“I don’t know,” the other replied. “I think you stand on it, and it makes you mad. At least it does that for my Mom and Dad.”
“The most frightening horror tales are those told by bathroom scales,” somebody once said. I heartily agree.
So how do we lose weight the easy and the fastest way?
The article “How to Lie to the Bathroom Scales” suggests how:
Weigh yourself with clothes on, after dinner... as well as in the
morning, without clothes, before breakfast, because it’s nice to see how
much weight you’ve lost overnight.
Never weigh yourself with wet hair.
When weighing, remove everything, including glasses. In this case,
blurred vision is an asset. Don’t forget the earrings, these things can
weigh at least a pound.
Use cheap scales only, never the medical kind, because they are always five pounds off... to your advantage, of course.
Always go to the bathroom first.
Stand with arms raised, making pressure on the scale lighter.
(Waving them is optional but occasionally helps!)
Don’t eat or drink in the morning until AFTER you’ve weighed in, completely naked, of course.
Weigh yourself after a haircut. This is good for at least half a pound of hair (hopefully).
Exhale with all your might BEFORE stepping onto the scale. (Air has to weigh something, right?)
Start out with just one foot on the scale. Then, holding onto the
towel rack in front of you, slowly edge your other foot on and slowly
let off of the rack. Admittedly, this takes time, but it’s worth it. You
will weigh at least two pounds less than if you had stepped on
normally.
Here’s the deal: whether we talk about losing weight and being
healthy or being successful in every area of our lives, we need to be
honest with ourselves and do the right things.
You cannot cheat yourself to success. You need to discipline yourself
and do a lot of hard work. You can’t lie your way to success either.
The truth always reveals itself. And when you’re found out, it erodes
your credibility and diminishes your trust rating.
Never compromise. Compromise is simply finding good reasons to do
wrong things. Stand for principles and righteousness, and pursue
goodness at all times. We need to have a healthy fear of God in order to
have wisdom operate in our lives.
Honesty is the best policy, but there are too few policyholders. You and I should make sure we’re part of those few.
Starting today, resolve not just to be religious but to be righteous.
And as we go to work tomorrow, insist on doing the right things, not
for any other reason but simply because it’s the right thing to do.
