If you have not heard of the Iloilo Dinagyang Festival yet then maybe this will get you take a look at this Festival held every 3rd Sunday of January! The Festival showcases the street dancing performance of about 15 tribes to celebrate the Feast of the Sto. Nino. This year's top tribe was Tribu Pan-ay which represented the Fort San Pedro HS (Iloilo City) ! The group, aside from acquiring bragging rights over other High Schools in Iloilo City and Iloilo Province also won cash prizes and the privilege of representing Iloilo City 's Dinagyang Festival in the annual fiesta of all Philippine Festivals , the 2011 Aliwan Fiesta !
The 2011 Dinagyang winner joined about 20 or so other Festival representatives from all over the Philippines where it subsequently bested Cebu's 2011 Sinulog Festival representative and the best performing tribes from various Festivals all over the country!
In case you're wondering how they won , watch this winning performance of Tribu Pan-ay during the 2011 Aliwan Fiesta!
Incidentally , Tribu Pan-ay earned a trip to the Big Apple to perform in this year's Philippine Independence Day celebration for their excellent performance and outstanding achievements ! The ensemble will be needing 3 million Philippine pesos ( roughly 70,000 US dollars) to defray cost of plane tickets for the trip to New York City . Sad to say , organizers claim they have so far raised only a million pesos for the US trip and that's from their first place cash award from the Aliwan Fiesta!
Any of you want to help Tribu Pan-ay for their trip to New York City ?
