Reading 1, Dt 11:18, 26-28, 32

18 'Let these words of mine remain in your heart and in your soul; fasten them on your hand as a sign and on your forehead as a headband.
26 'Today, look, I am offering you a blessing and a curse:
27 a blessing, if you obey the commandments of Yahweh your God which I enjoin on you today;
28 a curse, if you disobey the commandments of Yahweh your God and leave the way which today I have marked out for you, by following other gods hitherto unknown to you.
32 and you must keep and observe all the laws and customs promulgated by me to you today.'

Responsorial Psalm, Psalms 31:2-3, 3-4, 17, 25

2 turn your ear to me, make haste. Be for me a rock-fastness, a fortified citadel to save me.
3 You are my rock, my rampart; true to your name, lead me and guide me!
4 Draw me out of the net they have spread for me, for you are my refuge;
17 I call on you, Yahweh, so let disgrace fall not on me, but on the wicked. Let them go down to Sheol in silence,

Gospel, Mt 7:21-27

21 'It is not anyone who says to me, "Lord, Lord," who will enter the kingdom of Heaven, but the person who does the will of my Father in heaven.
22 When the day comes many will say to me, "Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, drive out demons in your name, work many miracles in your name?"
23 Then I shall tell them to their faces: I have never known you; away from me, all evil doers!
24 'Therefore, everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a sensible man who built his house on rock.
25 Rain came down, floods rose, gales blew and hurled themselves against that house, and it did not fall: it was founded on rock.
26 But everyone who listens to these words of mine and does not act on them will be like a stupid man who built his house on sand.
27 Rain came down, floods rose, gales blew and struck that house, and it fell; and what a fall it had!'

Reading 2, Rom 3:21-25, 28

21 God's saving justice was witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, but now it has been revealed altogether apart from law:
22 God's saving justice given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.
23 No distinction is made: all have sinned and lack God's glory,
24 and all are justified by the free gift of his grace through being set free in Christ Jesus.
25 God appointed him as a sacrifice for reconciliation, through faith, by the shedding of his blood, and so showed his justness; first for the past, when sins went unpunished because he held his hand;
28 since, as we see it, a person is justified by faith and not by doing what the Law tells him to do.
