AFF Suzuki Cup 2010 : Malaysia claims first title!
Malaysia bags its first AFF Suzuki Cup title as it scores a goal in Jakarta amidst the loud , rabid 80,000 Indonesian fans and supporters in the cavernous Gelora Bung Karno Stadium last night. While Indonesia won the game , 2-1 , Malaysia still ended lifting the prestigious Cup as it won 4-2 on aggregate goals!
Predictably , the Indonesian side came out hard and aggressive on both ends of the pitch as they trailed Malaysia 0-3 after getting smothered in the first leg in Kuala Lumpur 's Bukit Jalil Stadium and intense pressure from the eager home town crowd and expectant national leaders watching in the stands !.
From a tight scoreless and see-saw first half with occasional skirmishes on both goals , Malaysia drew first blood after tournament best striker Safee received a long lead pass just above the penalty box and beat the off side trap of two Indonesian defenders to blast a bullet of a kick from the left just minutes after the 2nd half started! At this point , you would think that the Merah Putih had given up but they were still able to score 2 goals on the 72nd & 88th marks to settle the final count at 2-1: and ,a 4-2 aggregate score for the series!
Indonesia's captain , Firman Utina , was adjudged MVP while Malaysian striker won top scorer of the AFF 2010 Suzuki Cup!
