Today's Reflections

The True Family of Jesus

Mt 12:46-50
46While [Jesus] was still speaking to the crowds, his mother and his brothers appeared outside, wishing to speak with him. 47[Someone told him, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside, asking to speak with you.”] 48But he said in reply to the one who told him, “Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?” 49And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. 50For whoever does the will of my heavenly Father is my brother, and sister, and mother.”
Reflection:
Who is my mother? Who are my brothers? “Blood is thicker than water.” And among us, Filipinos, to be a kapamilya or kamag-anak (co-family
member or relative) is one of the strongest bonds. Jesus does not
belittle those bonds, but to him the bond that matters most is the one
that comes from doing the will of his Father. When we do God’s will,
then we are the mother or brother or sister of Jesus.
If you want to be malakas (influential)
with Jesus, then do his Father’s will, just as he did. St. James says,
“The fervent prayer of a righteous person is very powerful” (Jas 5:16).
Do you now understand why Mary and the saints
are such powerful intercessors with Christ?
